The second day of TRITON 3 Rio de Janeiro 2025 will be dedicated to the cycling segment, featuring the challenging climb of Serra do Piloto in Mangaratiba. The event is organized by the Instituto Rio Esporte e Lazer (IREL), co-hosted by V3A, and supported by the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro through the State Sports Incentive Law.
With a course that combines breathtaking scenery and demanding elevation, Cycling Day invites athletes to push their limits of endurance and strategy, reinforcing TRITON’s philosophy of balance between body and mind.
Bike Course Overview
The bike race is scheduled to start at 8:00 AM, near the entrance of the Mangaratiba Exhibition Park (EXPO). All athletes will begin with a single, controlled start. Around 150 meters ahead, a rolling start will officially launch the race. All the athletes will ride from the start in Mangaratiba towards the City of Rio Claro, which is the further return point for the MIDDLE and LONG distances.
SPRINT distance athletes will turn around approximately 22.5 km from the start. MIDDLE and LONG distance athletes will continue further, with their turnaround point located around 35.5 km from the start.
Before reaching their respective turnarounds, all athletes will pass through “Macundu” — a roundabout located mid-course, where a full support station will be in place.
LONG and MIDDLE distance athletes will proceed straight until the further return in Rio Claro. After that, they will ride back towards Macundu. LONG distance athletes will start a second loop in Macundu at approximately 52.5 km. They will ride again from Macundu to Rio Claro and back before heading to the final stretch to the finish line.
All athletes will finish the bike segment at the summit of Serra do Piloto, roughly 3 km past Macundu, heading toward Mangaratiba. From there, athletes will descend through a neutralized zone for about 15 km to ensure safety on the way back down.
Elevation Profile (Approximate):
All three distances feature an initial climb of 11.5 km with an average gradient of 4.5%.
Total elevation gain:
SPRINT: 700 m
MIDDLE: 1.200 m
LONG: 1.600 m
We have a policy of zero tolerance for littering. We are determined to make this a “leave nothing but footprints” event. Any food or drinks you consume during the course segments must be done in place, and if you litter anywhere on the course you will be immediately disqualified and fined by authorities.
Please make sure you slow down enough (on the bike in particular) to take on any nutrition needs you may have, and make sure you secure them well not to let them drop. At the aid stations there is a dropping zone for your litter that you must absolutely respect.
On the run course you will not be allowed to consume any nutrition, solid or liquid, that carries trash with it, outside of the aid station zones. We recommend you carry a fuel backpack, especially if you are doing the full distance.
We are sure you appreciate these measures as much as both we, and all residents, do, in order to keep the region clean and make sure it receives us with open arms for many years to come.
